Photoshop Calendars

Above are the three calendars I made in photoshop for the Humane Society. These can be useful to you as you can check dates that we have upcoming events. The project allowed us to make our own coupons and use our own photos to decorate it. The main purpose was to really use all of the photoshop elements we have learned already. The humane society calendar was a project that we could get a little more creative with which was nice. I wanted to make mine very readable and realistic down to the last detail with the coupons and the dotted line to cut along. I thought about how people view calendars when they get them and I’m sure the calendars tend to be laid out the same every month. I wanted to make sure that it flowed and that the coupons and photos were in the same spots as previous months because I didn’t want it to confuse the person reading it. They know that when they flip to next month the coupon will be in the same place as it was before.

I wanted to make sure that it was colorful so it looked like it had life to it. On the star coupon I made it have a drop shadow to make it look like it was 3-D and came out of the paper.I made sure to be creative and add in fun dates on the calendar that people would like. I take my dog to Yappy hour at the James Island Dog Park and I thought that that would be a good date to throw in there. Also, I made sure to make up my own “Adopt-A-Thon” days. I tried to incorporate a couple different photos that way it didn’t just focus specifically on Dogs and Cats. I made the coupons realistic by adding a barcode to them like they actually have in magazines and newspaper flyers. I used text wrap within the coupons as well, to make it different instead of just having the coupon at the bottom. For the coupons I made them relevant to things that pet owners want to save money on. I chose the discount on a first veterinary visit because those can get expensive. Secondly, I discounted food and a general purchase from PetSmart.

Contrast was seen between the colors that I chose. I made it bright so they contrasted against each other and stood out enough. I used repetition when it came to the coupons and which ones I used. I also made sure that they had the “cut along here” lines on everyone. I also surrounded the three pictures with the thin then thick lines to make sure it flowed. For the alignment I made sure that the photos all lines up to the same level on that page and kept it so they went directly from one to another, on the same straight line. I used proximity and made sure that the photos and coupons were too close to each other or crowding anything else. It had to have a decent space in between it so it doesn’t look like everything is packed into a small space.
